Yesterday we stopped in Chicago to catch a Cubbie game at Wrigley field and take in some of the sites around the city. I love coming to Chicago. From the beautiful waterfront, well laid out and clean city streets, vast amount of parks, and endless activities it’s always fun, especially in the fall months. The day before we had been in St. Louis where it was 101 when we stepped outside at 10am so the brisk daytime high of 73 was a nice change of pace. We settled in to our seats around 1:30pm high above third base taking in the view of the rooftop deck seating on all the apartments surrounding the ballpark and the lush ivy hugging the brick along the outfield wall. By the end of the 4th inning I was frustrated enough with the 12 guys seated in front of me that I needed to get… [Read More]

Dana Fisher There is something inspiring about this place. Part of it is the beautiful views that, even though they are the same, are vastly different every day. My fellow Bloomers also have a lot to do with it. I contend I am not a poet or lyricist by any means but thought I would share the imagery that has been lingering in my mind: aroma of grace like sweet summer rain whispers through the fields of wild flowers dusty feet heavy on the path laid before sooty clouds usher in crackling thunder Forgiveness sparkles in his eye Forgiveness is the alibi love trickles down his cheek love broken for the weak heart breaking, breath taking Star-crossed eyes watch in silence at the murder of the one and future king The earth groans in wondrous adoration with absolute exhale of sacrifice Through darkness resurrection for the weak in… [Read More]
Slowly Stripping Down

Dana Fisher Out here in Colorado you aren’t required to wear a helmet when you drive a motorcycle. My brother and I would make a comment every time we saw one riding down the street or highway. The roads out here are wide, multi-lane suicide paths where cars zip back and forth while texting or turning around chatting to their 3 kids in the backseat. I’ve been to a lot of different states and cities, this is by far one of the scariest driving experiences. So when I bought a motorcycle several months ago I refused to go on the highway where no one looked when they switched lanes. And when I decided to venture out at all I threw on my boots and jeans, my leather jacket with armor, my big leather and titanium gloves, and of course my helmet. But it started to get hotter and hotter as the days… [Read More]
Forgiveness

Dana Fisher Forgiveness for me is not easy. Over the last 2 years I’ve really spent a lot of time trying to understand it better and reflect on what I could be doing better in my life as far as forgiveness goes. Yesterday a friend of mine, Charity, posted a story of forgiveness that I just can’t stop thinking about. I thought I would quickly pass along a link to her site for you to read it. Planoeast Reunion Benefit Concert
August 10th, 2011
Dana Fisher Many of you may already know that Dave and Jen Capozzi will be adopting a son from Haiti. After traveling there on a missions trip in March they fell in love with a young boy named Andy. You can read more about their story on the adoption blog. We are all super exited for him to come here and be apart of not only their family but our extended family. However what comes with the joy of adoption are also some staggering costs. In the hopes of helping them out we are going to host a fundraiser right here in Weymouth with several things for all ages! 100% of the proceeds will go to the adoption fees. Tickets will be just $10 at the door. Planoeast! – That’s right, they’re back! If you don’t already know their music, check out their facebook page The Brightest Lights – A great local… [Read More]

dave as a preface to the second part of my ‘growing up christian’ post i’d like to make it clear that i am in no way attempting to be negative or overly critical. i am simply interested in digging up my past in a way that will move me forward to being more Christ-like. if it ever comes of like i’m preaching, it’s because i’m pleading with myself to keep going. i got way off track in my first post and didn’t bother to edit it, so i will try to be more focused in this one. preface done. so much of what we learn as evangelicals is that there are a specific set of core beliefs that one must affirm in order to be considered “in the fold,” so to speak. this list includes the following doctrinal affirmations: God created the world in six days (literal or figurative), we are… [Read More]
Doom! Doom and Gloom!
August 1st, 2011
Dana Fisher Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. ~Matthew 6:34 When I was 10 or 11 we watched the “end times” videos in school. Those ones you laugh at now, based in the 1960′s or 70′s with bell bottoms, bad acting, and even worse graphics and make up. But as a little kid I was terrified! I remember coming home one day and just telling my mother they flat out scared the hell out of me. A lot of my salvation at an early age was based on this fear of the end. If you don’t confess now and act perfectly, hell is where you are headed mister! Those videos literally scared me straight. Straight into church, straight away from everything else. I had no desire to end up in some 170 degree hell of America… [Read More]

dave wow, it’s been a while. i miss the blogosphere community that once was, and hope that it hasn’t forgotten about me! lately i have been thinking a lot about my life and the events/systems of thinking that have shaped the way i interact with God, people and nature. this current stream of thoughts has led me to remember the stumbling blocks that once stood in the way of embracing the Father of my Rabbi. i remembered the first of many questions that would jump start my inevitable crisis of faith, and recalled my inability to embrace the teaching that Jesus lived and died to forgive me of my sins and that his death opened up the pathway to go to heaven. this came during a time that i remember hearing the notion that if i were the only person on earth, Jesus would still have died for my sins. i… [Read More]
Under His wings

Dana Fisher He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; ~ Psalm 91:4 Women have a great intuition on protecting, men not so much. So it’s no surprise I’ve struggled in this area, trying to understand the line between protection and free will. How far do we go with someone before we let them go to their own devises? Last week during Sunday service our pastor said something we struck me, “we are idol factories in our hearts”. I thought back to the factories I’ve seen, pumping out large quantities of what ever it is they were making. There seemed to be disregard for demand, they were simply making as much as they could because they had the capacity. That’s what hit me, as sinful people we just keep pumping out idol after idol because that’s all we know, constantly trying to fill that void… [Read More]
Love lacks a deadline

Dana Fisher When I was a young teenager my uncle came out and told us he was gay. I remember some shock from family, but I don’t remember too much overall. There were no mass hysterics(at least not visibly amongst us kids) and he certainly wasn’t ostracized. In essence, nothing really changed inside the family dynamic. The foundation of love still existed. Years later at 19 years old I took a job as an intern at Bayer Diagnostics working with my dad. Not long before that my uncle had been diagnosed with lung cancer after smoking most of his life. He lived fairly close, and having worked there himself at one point, would come down often to visit former friends and co-workers. I spent quite a few lunch breaks walking to the local pizza shop with him and my dad, hanging out and just chatting. That summer means a lot to me. … [Read More]
