That straight and narrow path is narrow for a reason and sometimes, certainly for me, it feels as if either side is a ledge. When I look back at some of the big trials in my life I see a moment in time on that same point where I made a decision for Christ and against the World. We don’t teach that in Sunday School. October 27th, 2010 Dana Fisher The idea of faith is so astounding to me. Belief in things unseen, so dear to ones heart that they would sacrifice for it, give to it, and even be martyred for it. It became increasingly evident as I was here that as an American I lack faith and a sense of urgency. I was talking to my new friend Peter, walking around the city of Cape Town when he said that his church was having a conference too, in December. In American fashion the next question out of my mouth was “What’s it about?”. His answer really put my question in perspective: “We don’t know yet.” As westernized Christianity goes we tend to strip God of the ability to blow our minds and direct our path. Lausanne Movement – Small Cogs
October 15th, 2010 Dana Fisher I realize the Bible says blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed(John 20:29), but for us as people, it proves very difficult. If it weren’t, all of us would perhaps be saved just by word of mouth and nothing more. To experience the Lausanne Congress from the inside is a unique perspective and while I can do my best to describe the sites, sounds, and experiences here it would not do justice to the great expansive effort being put forward here by everyone. Sometimes seeing is believing. Yesterday was spent in meetings, training, and a tour of the venue getting an overview of how things are going to play out. In the main hall crews worked through the night on lifts wiring up lighting, while other crews constructed a bookstore and registration booths. June 23rd, 2010 Dana Fisher but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; ~Isaiah 40:31 I don’t fly very often but when I do I generally fly at night. The atmosphere seems quieter and I usually nod off until we land. On the rare occasion that it is day time, I’ve had the unfortunate circumstance of bad weather and cloudy skies. All this translates in to me not being able to see outside the window and enjoy the view. Friday as I took an early morning flight to Denver the skies were clear across the country and the weather was beautiful. As I settled down in my aisle seat I realized no one was sitting in my row. October 28th, 2009 Dana Fisher Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.. ~Matt 11:28 “I want you to take your hands off the reigns and trot over the bars without holding on.” The instructor said. “You want me to do what?” I looked down at her perplexed from atop a beautiful, large horse. I hadn’t ridden on a horse in over 20 years and I had only been on this one for about 15 minutes. “You’re leaning forward with your shoulders, using your own power to keep you up.” She replied. “You need to sit back more and allow the horse to do the work.” I’m a sports guy, I’ve played them my entire life. It’s a common theme, you get a new car cheap, and find a $5 bill on the floor of the local stop and shop and one of your friends mentions “hey what’s next? Good things come in 3′s.”, and vice versa for bad things. January 4th, 2008 Dana Fisher Therefore what God has joined together, let man not seperate. – Matthew 19:6 I feel I must get on my soap box after having a conversation a couple of days ago with several non-believers. Two are around my age, one around my dad’s age. It troubled me to the point I needed a few days to grapple with what it really means. Recalling how the conversation actually started is difficult, and probably irrelevant, but we all somehow managed to get on the conversation of marriage. One spoke up and said he and his wife moved in together and then got married so marriage wasn’t a “big decision” for them.
