For God did not give us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline. – 2 Timothy 1:7 God’s up there right now with a great sense of humor just chuckling away. At least that’s how I feel in my life. I’m never used in the ways I envision or things I think would be best. And there’s a flaw in that last sentence…”I”. Isn’t it true of all of us that the situations we’re placed in stretch us just a bit outside our comfort zone if we are doing what He asks? Each time making us more and more well rounded. I struggle with this one a lot simply because I’m not a very outspoken person. If I know you and I’m comfortable with you my personality blossom’s but throughout my life I’ve been a shy, laid back personality, content in my own… [Read More]

The grass is always greener

Dana Fisher Lot looked up and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan was well watered,… So Lot chose for himself the whole plain of the Jordan. -Genesis 13:10-11 Some times trials aren’t bad things happening to you. Some times trials sneak up on us as perceived blessings and only bite us later on down the road. We look back and realize “Man that was a dumb decision”. For years I prayed for the “perfect” job. Everyone has their own idea of the perfect situation. Mine was this: 1. It payed the bills, 2. The people were nice and not overbearing, 3. They were understanding when you were sick and not second guessing you every time you called in, 4. It was close to home. That’s in no particular order and I earnestly prayed, Lord if you can make it happen please do. Put me in Your perfect situation. If money… [Read More]
Salt Water Taffy
March 19th, 2008
Dana Fisher …but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. – John 4:14 I love salt water taffy! One minute you’re chewing on cinnamon, the next mint chocolate. Any flavor you can imagine probably exists as a piece of salt water taffy somewhere. One of the best and worst parts is how chewy and sticky it really is. It gets stuck so far down in your teeth you taste it for hours. As I grabbed a piece from the candy jar at the pet store the other day it got me thinking; I’m just like this little piece of taffy. In the scope of things this little piece of taffy is insignificant. If it fell on the ground, or got dirty and was unusable we’d throw it away. We get dirty every day with sins we don’t even realize we commit. Yet Jesus comes along and cleans us off,… [Read More]
I met someone

Dana Fisher I will lead the blind along ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. – Isaiah 42:16 Coming back from lunch, I parked in my familiar spot and reclined my chair. David Crowder was playing through my ipod as I day dreamed for the last 20 minutes of lunch. I like to zone out during lunch, take my mind off of things and just relax. I stare at a computer screen for 8hrs a day so breathing in some fresh air and closing my eyes does wonders to break up the day. Moments later I caught a silhouette in my side mirror, followed it through my rear view mirror, and then suddenly through the passenger side mirror… She was walking up to my door! She caught me off guard, with a… [Read More]
Defiant

Dana Fisher “Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion” – 1 Peter 5:8 Have you ever heard the saying “everything comes in 3′s.”? It’s a common theme, you get a new car cheap, and find a $5 bill on the floor of the local stop and shop and one of your friends mentions “hey what’s next? Good things come in 3′s.”, and vice versa for bad things. Let me walk you through the last month of my life: I got severally sick for 2 weeks(bed ridden for days at a time), my heat broke, I ran out of heating oil, I hurt my back to where I thought I had just had back surgery again, I was down to my last dollar, a girl at work is trying to make my job hard and for some reason doesn’t like me, and as soon as I fixed my heat, it… [Read More]
It smells so good!
January 16th, 2008
Dana Fisher Count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. -Romans 6:11 A couple of months ago I was walking to my car after work and recognized an unmistakable smell; The smell of autumn. It was 45-50 degrees, the sun was beginning to set, and it just smelled like fall. I love that smell for some reason. Maybe it’s memories, maybe it’s the changing landscape but something about that smell seems calming. I started thinking about what the smell actually was and it dawned on me that it was leaves. And I started thinking about why leaves die and regrow, why they change color, and why do they smell so good in the fall. God gives us a perfect example of His word in a real world visual. See, leaves bud, the sun gives them light and they grow. They mature and turn in to a vibrant color… [Read More]
Devastated

Dana Fisher The elements will be destroyed by fire. – 2 Peter 3:10 The smell of smoke and ash filled the air, choking out the breath in my lungs. But that wasn’t why my eyes began to water. Sitting on the cold, wet pavement just up the road was a young woman, wailing and sobbing. My brother came rushing in the door moments before. “Get out here, QUICK!” Confused and seeing the obvious excited panic in his eyes and went to the door in my socks. Not 500ft from my house flames licked the cold night sky. They stretched far out the top of the roof in the front, smoke billowing out from underneath the shingles in the back. It’s a sickening feeling knowing your helpless. I had heard the fire horn about 30 minutes before but thought nothing of it until now. As I walked down towards my neighbors house I… [Read More]
Red Rover, Red Rover
December 12th, 2007
Dana Fisher The Farmer sows the word. -Mark 4:14 Have you ever played red rover as a kid? It’s a recess game, with two teams facing each other, their hands interlocked. Each team takes turns calling someone over to try and break through the chain. I’d like to view it in another light. As Christians we have a tendency to form an impenetrable wall. We interlock hands with each other and hold on for dear life. When someone new comes along and tries to break in to our group we resist. Even as Christians Satan can use us for evil. Jesus communed with sinners(Mark 2:16-18). They need Him more than we who are already saved. We are all farmers, chosen to plant seed. It’s amazing then that we feel our only charge is to throw the seed around and hope it sticks. Does a farmer whip seed all over his field and… [Read More]
Facebook kicked me in the teeth

Dana Fisher But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you – Matthew 5:44 I’m sure you have a friend, acquaintance, co-worker, etc… who rubs you the wrong way. Maybe all the time, maybe only once in a while. God knows I do. Normally I just get frustrated and angry. Maybe I vent to other friends about it. WRONG. The challenge I’ve been presented is to love them, to understand them, to befriend them. What? Yup, be their friend. Love covers a multitude of sins – 1 Peter 4:8. In love my attitude will change. I’ll begin to get along, I may actually even[shudder] ENJOY their company! Oh no! How is this possible? How can I love who I hate? Because if I pray continually without ceasing(1 Thessalonians 5:17) God will change my heart. He’ll break down the walls. Stop repaying wrong for wrong(1 Thessalonians 5:15). I… [Read More]
He told me to write a letter

Dana Fisher He who belongs to God hears what God says. – John 8:47 Back in September I heard a voice. No I don’t need to be institutionalized. It took me a while to figure out that it wasn’t just me, that it was the Holy Spirit. John says: But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come(16:13). Okay, lets backtrack to January 8, 2006. My then girlfriends father gave me a recliner. Very long story short I decided to pick up the recliner and carry it into the house by myself. Being muscle man and all, I figured no big deal. 12 hours later four paramedics were lugging my large body out the door an into an ambulance. Turns out I… [Read More]
