Awake from your Slumber

pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks ~1 Thessalonians 5:17-18 My prayer life has sucked lately. It’s one of those things you don’t dare say as a Christian but if we are honest with each other I think we can all admit we have times where we just struggle with some particular part of our walk, whether it be prayer or reading or being kind or patient. For whatever reason though it’s okay to admit we are struggling with patience but prayer and staying in the Word seem uncouth as if we lose part of our Christianity if we dare admit it. I’m unclear why I felt dried up in this area. In reflection there are things on the horizon for me which will require deeper strength and diligence and wisdom. Perhaps like a tree without water I needed to be thirsty in order to grow roots much deeper into… [Read More]

Everyone gets to Heaven

A little discussion for your minds: Who gets in to heaven? Take a look at the article on Rob Bell, written by Justin Taylor. If you don’t want to read the article, at least scroll down and watch the video(the most important part). Many know that I am a believer in non-violent resistence, and am frequently called a pacifist. Having a background laced with anger and violence and continually struggling with my temper it took 27 years to come to the realization that Jesus really did call us to something drastically different than how we operate as people and nations. I want to discuss this, not because I side with Rob Bell or find truth in his statements, but because I see those believing in nonviolent resistance and a loving God getting lumped into this ‘other’ group which, in my opinion, is veering off the path into a scary realm…. Move with a sense of urgency

Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first… 2 Thessalonians 2:3 I see two things happening recently that are disturbing and exciting at the same time: A lack of enthusiasm and energy from Christians In-fighting within Christian circles I have a couple of friends that lead youth groups or young adult studies at various churches. A once vibrant young adults study of 30-40 has fallen to 1-2 people a week. Another which was 15 or so is now dwindled to those same numbers of just 1 or 2. From church to church the effort to do for Christ has shifted to “do for me”. Everyone is becoming lazy and apathetic. Kids aren’t excited to go to youth group, they are excited for events. “What can keep me entertained?” As people leave one church and head to another(for various… [Read More]

Frozen Fear

For God did not give us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline. – 2 Timothy 1:7 God’s up there right now with a great sense of humor just chuckling away. At least that’s how I feel in my life. I’m never used in the ways I envision or things I think would be best. And there’s a flaw in that last sentence…”I”. Isn’t it true of all of us that the situations we’re placed in stretch us just a bit outside our comfort zone if we are doing what He asks? Each time making us more and more well rounded. I struggle with this one a lot simply because I’m not a very outspoken person. If I know you and I’m comfortable with you my personality blossom’s but throughout my life I’ve been a shy, laid back personality, content in my own… [Read More]

Defiant

“Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion” – 1 Peter 5:8 Have you ever heard the saying “everything comes in 3′s.”? It’s a common theme, you get a new car cheap, and find a $5 bill on the floor of the local stop and shop and one of your friends mentions “hey what’s next? Good things come in 3′s.”, and vice versa for bad things. Let me walk you through the last month of my life: I got severally sick for 2 weeks(bed ridden for days at a time), my heat broke, I ran out of heating oil, I hurt my back to where I thought I had just had back surgery again, I was down to my last dollar, a girl at work is trying to make my job hard and for some reason doesn’t like me, and as soon as I fixed my heat, it… [Read More]

Facebook kicked me in the teeth

But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you – Matthew 5:44 I’m sure you have a friend, acquaintance, co-worker, etc… who rubs you the wrong way. Maybe all the time, maybe only once in a while. God knows I do. Normally I just get frustrated and angry. Maybe I vent to other friends about it. WRONG. The challenge I’ve been presented is to love them, to understand them, to befriend them. What? Yup, be their friend. Love covers a multitude of sins – 1 Peter 4:8. In love my attitude will change. I’ll begin to get along, I may actually even[shudder] ENJOY their company! Oh no! How is this possible? How can I love who I hate? Because if I pray continually without ceasing(1 Thessalonians 5:17) God will change my heart. He’ll break down the walls. Stop repaying wrong for wrong(1 Thessalonians 5:15). I… [Read More]
